About SoniPlan
SoniPlan designs podcast studios and audio post-production facilities, bringing acoustic performance, thoughtful interiors and project leadership together from the first conversation through a finished space.
Our focus is deliberate: studios for teams who care deeply about the quality of what they record, mix and produce. Our clients range from independent post houses and creator-led businesses to podcast networks, production companies and in-house teams at major media organizations. Across recording rooms, edit suites, immersive mix stages and studios built for both sound and picture, we design spaces that support the technical demands and the people doing the work.
We are based in the New York City metro area, working with clients nationwide.
Rooms designed for people
A studio should feel precise and accurate while also feeling natural. We care about the experience of spending a day in the room: how it feels to settle in at the mix position, welcome a client, record a conversation or work through a creative decision together.
Daylight, wood, fabric and carefully chosen furniture can bring warmth and character to a technically demanding space. We consider those choices alongside acoustics, sightlines, lighting and the practical needs of a session. The aim is a room that feels intuitive to use and a pleasure to be in, with the detail resolved so people can focus on their work.

Leadership from the first conversation through completion
We start by listening. Understanding what the facility needs to do, what matters to the people using it and what the building will allow gives the design a sound foundation. Our Discovery Sprint brings those priorities and constraints into focus before detailed design begins.
We bring clear recommendations and a considered point of view. Sometimes that means challenging an initial idea to better serve the client's goals. It also means knowing how to collaborate with an architect, interior designer or internal team, combining their perspective with our experience of studio environments.
As the project moves into construction, we remain actively involved. We help assemble the right team, coordinate with the general contractor, engineers and AV/IT specialists, and provide construction administration to carry the design through the build. We review decisions, resolve questions and advocate for the client as the rooms take shape. The client has a consistent design lead keeping that work aligned, so they can concentrate on the operation the facility is being built to support.
That involvement continues through acoustic validation, room tuning and any applicable certification process. The goal is a finished facility that meets its performance goals, works as intended and is ready for the client's first session.
Let’s talk about your studio project and how we can help guide it from early planning through completion.
Book a CallLong before he designed studios, Tim was making music. He began playing piano at a young age, moving between classical, jazz and contemporary music and eventually into writing and performing with groups. While studying design in Philadelphia, an audio recording arts elective opened up another side of that creative process. He began recording his own bands and those of friends, an interest that eventually brought him to New York City to study audio engineering.
In New York, he worked in audio post-production while also building studios alongside experienced contractors and studio designers including Francis Manzella. His work in editing and mixing gave him a working knowledge of the rooms from the engineer’s side. Constructing them gave him an understanding of the materials, assemblies and coordination behind their performance. He eventually went on to teach acoustics at SAE Institute.
In 2011 Tim founded and co-led Crossley Acoustics, spending twelve years growing a studio design-build practice with the breadth to take a project from its first sketches through construction, custom fabrication, technical systems, and commissioning. The work grew from small studios to large, complex facilities in New York City and across the country, with immersive mixing and Dolby Atmos rooms becoming a defining area of his expertise. Leading that work meant understanding how every part of a studio comes together, and what it takes to carry a design through to a working room.
Tim is also a co-founder and partner at Space Lab Systems, where he leads product direction and industrial design. The company develops high-performing speaker stands and other products for recording studio environments. His work there reflects the same attention to ergonomics and visual design that he brings to the rooms themselves.
SoniPlan puts that experience at the center of the client's project. Tim leads the design with his team, brings the right specialists together and guides the project through completion. His judgment draws on having worked at the mix position, on the construction site and through the final tuning of a room. That perspective informs both the design itself and the decisions that turn it into a place people can do their best work.
Tim is a member of the Audio Engineering Society and the Acoustical Society of America.
“Working with Tim on our Dolby Atmos studio was an absolute pleasure. We initially struggled with another firm on the project who was not meeting our needs. We decided to bring on Tim and his team to get things back on track and they guided the project from design all the way through Dolby's certification. His creative vision and expertise is exceptional. His execution far exceeded our expectations. The room looks and sounds amazing!”
